Prism Source Restart Procedure


Recovering from a Prism High Voltage Trip

1. Turn ion gauge off (Mass Spec Menu).
2. Close DI233 software and shut of computer and monitor.
3. Turn source mains off.
4. Turn DC supply off.
5. Wait one minute
6. Turn LEFT main breaker off.
7. Wait one minute.
8. Turn LEFT breaker on.
9. Wait one minute.
10. Turn DC supply on.
11. Turn source mains on.
12. Restart computer.
13. Start DI233 program.
14. Turn ion gauge to 0.1 mA.
15. Turn source ON (Mass Spec Menu).
16. Open source tuning dialog box (Mass Spec Menu Tune Source).
17. Set extraction voltage to 75%.
18. Begin turning source up (1 of 4 steps):
a. Set trap current to 200 uA
b. Ramp accelerating voltage to ~1000 V.
c. Check on the MS electronics panel that the source is indeed on (two read lights, one green light) and that the trap current and accelerating voltage are around what they should be.
d. Wait five minutes.
19. Turn up source values (2 of 4 steps):
a. Set trap current to 400 uA
b. Ramp accelerating voltage to ~2200 V.
c. Wait five minutes.
20. Turn up source values (3 of 4 steps):
a. Set trap current to 600 uA
b. Ramp accelerating voltage to ~3250 V.
c. Wait five minutes.
21. Turn up source values (4 of 4 steps):
a. Set trap current to 800 uA
b. Ramp accelerating voltage to ~4300 V.
22. Load tune settings (currently CO2May07).
23. With CO2 in the source, find the CO2 peak (peak center will usually do it, but if the tune settings are way off, you may have to search around with the accelerating voltage).
24. Done.
