Course description:

Physical concepts and governing equations of fluid dynamics and heat transfer: thermal convection, vortex dynamics, potential flows, viscous flows, boundary layer flows, gravity waves, instabilities. Besides lectures on these traditional topics in fluid dynamics, the graduate students in the class write their own computer program to simulate nonlinear thermal convection and gravity waves in a two dimensional box of fluid.
